Abstraction

The rise of abstract art sparked controversy as it rejected realistic representations of the human form in favour of abstract shapes and colours. This departure from traditional art forms left many feeling disillusioned, as it appeared to require little artistic talent or craftsmanship, leading to a rift between artists and audiences.

A similar conflict arises in the world of design when a conceptual approach is taken. The question then becomes whether the function of the piece should take precedence over the design process and concept, or whether these elements should hold equal weight.

One potential solution to this conflict is to involve the user in the design process. By offering various options for rotation and composition, the user is empowered to participate in the creation of the design. This enables a deeper connection to the object and the discovery of its full potential.
