The golden years of Luxembourg's steel industry have passed. The contours of a blast furnace and industrial site emerge from the remains of the industrialization, where nature once flourished.

For a whole century, people worked hard in the industry that brought prosperity to such a small country where children grew up in the middle of an industrial area. Nowadays, the heritage is partly urbanised.

In some places in the country’s south, one can stand in between the constructions of the ironworks. Massive, large lattice steel structures support kettles and are penetrated by big pipes. The simple geometrical forms are welded and screwed together and are accumulated into a labyrinth of complex shapes, appearing in a patina from the last century.

While walking through one is transported back in time and still can imagine, how the liquid iron is produced from processed ores in a continuous reduction process, to be cast, and to take on various shapes in the rolling mill.

The design is inspired by the transformation and aesthetics of this heritage.
